Description:
This packaging is of a limited-edition Star Trek Discovery: 5th anniversary product line. The box is adorned with gold and silver elements to match the gold badge and silver ship model inside. When closed the box is a simple shape with the front having the Star Trek logo and title of the show displayed along with the anniversary announcement. The sides of the box depict a model of the USS Discovery, one side being reflective silver and the other matte gold. The back of the box has a small saying and lets the consumer know that it is a limited edition run of only 100 units. Upon opening the box, a silver ship model of the USS Discovery and a gold badge are revealed to the consumer in a flattering and presentable fashion for display.

Process:
The goal of the project was to use any means necessary to create a package design for a limited edition or expensive product. Once the brand was chosen sketching began and eventually rough models of the packaging were designed in Sketch Up. A 3D Model of the ship was used from Thingiverse (credits in the process book), the ship model was then 3D printed, painted, and coated in graphite to give it a shiny metallic appearance. Dielines were created for the box and a laser cutter was used to cut out the shape from thick black matte board. The box was then assembled over the course of several days using wood, metal plates, clamps, and specialized packaging glue-tape. The graphics and typography were applied to box using matte gold and reflective silver vinyl.
