Project: Streetscaping
Class: Advanced Graphic Design
Professor: Robert Kelemen
Deliverables: Street Kiosks, Street Posts, Indoor Signage
Date: Spring 2024
Description:
Urban Reflections was a brand created to unify these streetscaping markers. Three 8ft tall street kiosks, three ~10ft tall sculptural signage posts, and three interior information tables were made for this project. The goal was to create large scale objects for people to interact with that brought together a group of buildings in the city of Akron that shared similar architecture. Urban Reflections brings together three of Akron’s most iconic modern/post-modernism buildings, the John S. Knight Center, the National Inventors Hall of Fame Middle School, and the Goodyear Polymer Center. All nine pieces incorporate glass and metal and are designed to represent the buildings they are display information about.
Process:
This was a group assignment, the team worked together to gather research and photos about the buildings. Many iterations of sketching were made through out the development process of this assignment. Branding was created to incorporate major shape themes from each building. Rough cardboard models, printouts, and 3d modeling were used to get an idea of the size and shaping of each object. The objects were then all 3D modeled and rendered with graphics and typography applied. Overall, the team did a great job and was a pleasure to work with!
